Hemp Oil

Hemp oil, produced from the pressing of hemp seeds, is a clear and colourless liquid with little flavour when refined. In unrefined form however, it ranges from a light to dark green and tends to a taste of nuttiness. It is produced from varieties of cannabis sativa.

What is Hemp Oil?

Hemp oil is reknowned for its diverse uses, dating back to 6000 BCE and its relation to the cannabis plant, making it a controversial yet highly desired commodity.

Its use can be traced back to ancient China to help cook food. Over the next 8000 thousand years, the true potential of hemp oil was slowly realised, being used in construction, clothing, shoes and eventually to create paper.

Sadly, modern history has not been quite as kind to the humble hemp seed. Its production was made difficult through world wide criminalisation of the plant it’s produced from, significantly altering the availability of the product for medicinal use.

Despite its relation to the drug marijuana, it doesn’t contain any THC, marijuana’s psychoactive component. In fact, most of the contents of the hemp seed oil are essential dietary acids, such as omega 3 and omega 6.

What does Hemp Oil do?

Thankfully, more progressive law has made it easier to study the full extent of hemp seed oils medicinal use. Being high in omega 3 and 6, as well as magnesium, zinc and iron gives it various health benefits, for both the body and mind.

Skin Conditions

Hemp oil is an incredibly useful product, being high in omega 3 and omega 6. This means that it can help treat various skin conditions when used as a dietary supplement.

  • Lichen Planus: Various studies show that the fatty acids in hemp oil can help treat the inflammation of the lichen planus
  • Eczema: Other studies have shown that hemp oil is effective when controlling eczema symptoms.
  • Acne: A study conducted in 2014 came to the conclusion that hemp oil is effect and powerful and possibly universal anti-acne treatment.
  • Psoriasis: Another study has shown that omega-3 fatty acids, can be beneficial to the treatment of psoriasis

Muscle Joint Pain:

Hemp Seed oil has anti-rheumatoid properties, suggesting that it can be used to treat MH7A, a cell heavily associated with rheumatoid arthritis.

Mood Improvement and Stress Relief:

A 2017 study has shown that the inhalation of hemp oil can improve their mood, relieve stress and increase their energy, which also indirectly helps with join pain, by relaxing the mind and body, a major part in managing the pain of arthritis and preventing flare ups.

Luckily, although it has a lot of uses, it doesn’t have too many side effects, most users reporting few to none. These include headaches and sleepiness mainly, as well as lowering blood pressure.

  • Anti-rheumatoid elements

Hemp Oil in the Media

This polarization is only a recent phenomenon. Ancient history shows that cannabis and hemp oil were very common and culturally accepted, appearing in China, the Netherlands, Egypt, India, Greece and even the Middle East.

Around the 1800s people became interested in integrating the plant into western medicine, exploding to over 2000 cannabis medical patents by 1937, encorporating CBD oil, marijuana and hemp seed oil.

However, shortly after the demonisation of hemp began in the media, and we slowly saw the world turn against this widely used plant.

Recently, however, we’re seeing this turn around, with more and more people beginning to accept and embrace the uses of hemp and its products, which in turn has loosened the laws.

One issue facing the hemp seed oil industry is the apprehension of people advertising the products. Arguably, one of the most important advertising platforms, Facebook has banned hemp products from appearing in advertisements. Their explanation for this is that due to their platform being global, they need to have policies that respect every culture and law in the globe, however this ignores the fact that they’re able to target adverts depending on county and as it’s pointed out in various places on the internet, this doesn’t apply to many substances that have differing prohibitions.

The damage of this isn’t only not letting the industry advertise and grow, but also delegitimizes the products as something that should still be sold in the dodgy back alleys of the internet.

Recently, a cheap, low carbon, fire resistant house was constructed in Britain, using the plant and its oils. The sheer versatility of these materials is shown in the fact that everything that went into the house was grown in a tiny 20 acre property. The company, “Practice Architecture” are planning to make a hundred more of these houses to showcase the use of these.

Hemp Oil and Inflammation/Arthritis

A 2014 study recently conducted is the “Hempseed oil induces reactive oxygen species- and C/EBP homologous protein-mediated apoptosis in MH7A human rheumatoid arthritis fibroblast-like synovial cells“. The study points out that the polyunsaturated fats (like the omegas in Hemp Seeds) has an effect on inflammation and rheumatoid arthritis. Hemp Seeds use to help these issues can be dated back to ancient Korea and China.

Results:

  • The study concludes that the polyunsaturated help disrupt the presence of MH7A in the blood stream, which is the type of cell that causes the inflammation problematic in rheumatoid arthritis.

Pain was 95% gone”

Hi I had hip pain for 3 years, could not sleep and always that dull ache. Doctors wanted to put me on medication but with too many side effects. I looked on the internet for something natural and came up with hemp oil, googled suppliers and that’s where I got your site. Started taking it and after 30 days pain was 95% gone and sleeping through the night. Been on it for 11 months now, I found out that I need a double hip replacement at 49 years of age. Doctor took one look at my x-rays and told me he can’t see how I get out of bed in the morning. One other quick story,my wife had an operation on her back many years ago and has had a hard time getting out of bed in the morning. Started her on hemp oil and after 3 days she got out of bed with little or no stiffness….” -Warren and Patricia Harris

Legal Status in Australia

Many people are worried about the legality of hemp seed products, due to their tenuous relationship with restricted drugs. Luckily, due to recent changes in Food Standards, various hemp products can be consumed perfectly legally, and even imported without special permission.

It should be noted that although hemp oil seed doesn’t normally contain any any THC and CBD, it is possible for trace amounts to be present. The restriction on these are a maximum CBD and THC content.

THC being 50mg per kg

CBD being 75mg/kg

In short, as long as you’re getting from a legitimate source that doesn’t have it infused with THC or CBD, you should be able to have and consume it in Australia with no legal issues at all.
