What is MK 2866?
MK 2866 is a selective androgen receptor modulator developed to treat conditions such as osteoporosis and muscle wasting.
Developed in the 1990s, MK 2866 exhibited incredible potential in restoring muscle mass to individuals who had lost it. In one study in mice, MK 2866 proved to be as effective as dihydrotestosterone (one of the most effective androgens) at restoring the pelvic floor muscles’ size.
The University of Tennessee Research Foundation held the rights to MK 2866 and licensed it to GTx Inc. In 2007, while MK 2866 was undergoing Phase II trials, GTx Inc. signed an exclusive license agreement with Merck and Co.
In 2010, both companies agreed to end the deal, which resulted in GTx Inc. reacquiring the rights to MK 2866.
In August 2013, It was unsuccessful in Phase III clinical trials for treating wasting in people with lung cancer. However, despite this failure, it continued to be popular among members of the bodybuilding community.
What does MK 2866 do?
The exact method of action of MK-2866 is still unknown; however, several theories have been put forward.
One theory hypothesizes that MK-2866 might work by increasing the activity of insulin-like growth factor 1 gene (IGF-1), which can help to increase strength and muscle growth.
IGF-1 is a hormone produced by the liver that has a similar molecular structure as insulin. It is produced throughout a person’s life with the highest production occurring during puberty and the lowest production occurring during old age and infancy.
MK 2866 might also work by activating muscle stem cells that help to regenerate and remodel muscles.
It might also stimulate cells in connective tissues that enable one to successfully recover from muscular injuries.

Inside the Games, covered the banning of American heptathlete, Alexandria Gochenour, for four years after an anti-doping violation.
They focus on the fact that MK 2866 is both a declared and an undeclared ingredient in many supplements available in the US. Subsequently, the FDA wrote to supplement manufacturers warning them that it is an unapproved new drug.
It’s a neutral article primarily written to convey the facts without any sensationalism. Apart from providing the facts on the doping allegations, the article also published Gochenour’s denial.

NFL Player Suspended (Oct 2022 cronkitenews.azpbs.org)

Arizona Cardinals wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins has recently returned to the playing squad after receiving a 6 week ban for using Ostarine, which is classified by the NFL as an anabolic agent.
Some researchers indicate that Ostarine can show up as a contaminant in other products whilst some athletes knowingly use the substance. Hopkins maintains his innocence surrounding the ban, stating that he has not deliberately used the substance. The volume of Ostarine found in his system was 0.1% which indicates his claims are likely to be accurate. Irrespective, the NFL decided to uphold the ban handed out to him.
Research Studies
Effects of MK-2866 on muscle wasting and physical function in patients with cancer
In 2007, a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study assessed the efficacy of MK 2866 in patients with cancer. Several cancer participants, men over 45 and women who had already experienced menopause, were recruited to participate in a study.
The participants were given once-daily oral MK-2866 or a placebo for up to 113 days. Those who got MK-2866 were either given a 1 mg or 3 mg dose. 52 people were given a placebo, 53 were given 1mg, and 54 were given 3mg.
Ostarine Helps Elderly Men and Women
This 2011 study reviewed the impacts that MK2866 had on men and women suffering from cachexia, that being muscle wasting resulting in a loss of skeletal muscle and decline in physical function.
Over 12 weeks, a double blind, placebo controlled trial was conducted with 120 men over the age of 60 and post menopausal women. Total lean body mass, physical function, body weight, insulin resistance, and safety were all assessed.
Ostarine Improves Lean Muscle Mass in Postmenopausal Women
This 2010 study investigated the effects that ostarine had on the muscle mass of postmenopausal women. It was conducted in conjunction with another sarm MK-3984. Test subjects were given 3mg of ostarine and two doses of MK-3984 over a 12 week period. Measurements were completed for lean body mass and physical performance was evaluated by bilateral leg press machine

This was the user’s first time experimenting with SARMs. He chose MK 2866 because he was tired of bulking up and then cutting down and losing his strength and size. He used MK 2866 for six weeks with no testosterone base, and for PCT, he used arimistane.

MK 2866 Dosage and Uses
General guidelines around using MK 2866 recommend using it for a 12-week cycle; 8 weeks of bulking and 4 weeks of cutting to get the best results. For men, a typical MK 2866 dosage usually ranges from 20-25mg. For women, a typical dose of MK-2866 is usually 10mg.
MK 2866 has a half-life of 24 hours, and as such most people prefer to take their daily dose all at once. However, some people have reported success when taking it in smaller doses 2-3 times a day.
Stacking
Like other SARMs, MK 2866 is given in stacks, although some people have reported taking it without stacking.
It is usually stacked with Cardarine and Ligandrol for bulking and cutting. Ligandrol is primarily used for bulking; however, it is effective in cutting as it prevents water retention. Cardarine promotes the metabolism of fatty acids.
General guidelines recommend that if you are using 25mg of MK 2866 per day, you should use 20mg of both Cardarine and Ligandrol.
Post Cycle Therapy- PCT
There are no set guidelines on PCT for MK 2866; however, users have made several determinations from looking at products with a similar composition and working.
PCT is not required when you are taking low doses of MK 2866, 3-10 mg; however, it is required when you are taking it in higher doses. Although you will need PCT with higher doses, you won’t require strong PCT like Nolvadex or Clomid. You will need to use a mild anti-estrogen and aromatase inhibitor.
Aromatase reduces the production of testosterone, which subsequently increases estrogen production, but with PCT, you will maintain hormonal balance.
After four weeks of PCT, you should take a 3-4 week break before starting another cycle.
